AN | IPR004268 Flagellin assembly, membrane protein MviN. This entry represents MviN, a family of integral membrane proteins predicted to have ten or more transmembrane regions. Although frequently listed as a virulence protein, it is not restricted to pathogens and it is an essential protein in Sinorhizobium meliloti. In a number of species its gene is adjacent to that of the uridylyltransferase GlnD, the signal-transducing enzyme that performs the key modification to the nitrogen regulatory protein PII [1]. Disruption of the MviN open reading frame results in flagellar structures that contain only the basal body and hook complex that lack the flagellum; suggesting that MviN might be involved in flagellin export or assembly [2]. Genome comparison studies led to MviN being predicted to be a peptidoglycan lipid II flippase though currently there is no direct evidence to support this annotation [3]. |
